Invitation to Berlin - Dear Senator Obama
Invitation to Berlin on July, 24th
Dear Senator Obama,
With this letter we would like to renew the Invitation from our public letter on Monday. We believe that the far most best location for a speech in Berlin is Tempelhof Airport. This is the unique location where the friendship between Germany and the US was founded with the Berlin Airlift in 1948/49. It is also the Symbol of Freedom of Berlin, Germany and Europe.
We know that the mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, has no interest that Tempelhof appears in public and tries to avoid any trouble around it. We suspect that this is due to his coalition partner, the former East German communist party.
Nevertheless, more than 60% of the Berlin citizens voted for the preservation of Tempelhof in a referendum several months ago. Tempelhof is THE Symbol for German-American Friendship. In the 1980s about 100,000 people per day visited the “friedship days” on the airport.
Tempelhof has proven its Qualification for such events many times. It is undoubtedly the best place.
A final word about the alternate place “Siegessäule”, which is now mentioned in the newspapers: This place appears problematic to us. You should know that the column has been moved to its current location during the Nazi era for a better scene for the Nazi parades, which took place on the avenue below.
Today it is a popular place for techno music parades (“Berlin Loveparade”) and especially the celebration of the Christopher Street Day (CSD), due to its phallus appearance. We think you should know this.
Please feel free to contact us.
